System Output - What to Expect?

It's important to note that solar energy works everywhere in Oregon as long as you have good access to the sun at your site. The map below illustrates Oregon's solar resources.

See the Solar Calculator to see what your system should produce.

To evaluate the output for your location a proper site analysis must be done with a sun chart. You can get a ballpark figure for the production of a solar electric system from NREL's PV Watt tool . Remember, that PV Watt uses an AC rating so if your system has a 'nameplate DC' rating of 2.6kw then you need to de-rate your system to find its AC output. A conservative de-rating value would be 25% less.

So, for example, a DC rated 2.6kw solar electric system would have a de-rated AC rating of 2kw. Using NREL's PV Watt tool and using the standard inputs the example system outputs in different locals are shown below.

Sample 2.6 kw DC (2 kw AC) Solar Electric System

Portland : 2 kw AC PV system annual output: 2,646 kwh valued at approximately $190.
Bend/Redmond : 2 kw AC PV system annual output: 3,528 kwh valued at approximately $254.
Medford
: 2 kw AC PV system annual output: 3,260 kwh valued at approximately $234.

See the Solar Calculator to see what your system can produce.
