SOLAR POOL HEATING
text provided by John Patterson of Mr Sun Solar
Solar pool heating is simple, reliable, and affordable. Utilizing your existing pump and filtration system, pool water is diverted through solar panels whenever heat from the sun is available. Any sunny day above 65 degrees F will result in an 80-plus degree pool.
Sizing is important. Most pools need a solar array at least half the size of the surface area of the pool. Therefore a 16' X 32' pool would need at least 250 square feet of solar collectors.
Solar also extends most pool owners' swimming season at least two months. Considerations Include:
--Surface area of the pool
--If an overnight solar pool cover is used
--Adequate area for panels
A typical system consists of solar collectors mounted on your roof, an optional solar sensor, and an automatic control unit.

How it works
1. Set the automatic control unit for desired water temperature.
2. Sensor detects changes in solar heat and tells the automatic control unit when there is energy available to work efficiently.
3. Your pool pump sends cold water from the pool through the solar collectors
4. Solar collectors transfer the sun's heat to the water as it flows through the collectors
5. Warm water flows back into the pool, continuously circulating through the collectors until it reaches pre-set temperature levels. At night and in limited sunshine, a sensor prevents the pool from being cooled by automatically triggering the controller to shut off the system and drain the water from the collectors.
