Community, or shared, solar is one of the fastest growing trends in the industry, and for good reason. Right now, up to 75% of business and residential customers can't access solar, due to roof access or credit issues.  Shared solar plants "virtually" credit a subscriber’s bill, avoiding the need for a physical connection.

But that barrier is coming down all across the country, creating a massive new market opportunity. Community shared solar is currently legal in nine states, and is about to move into prime time with the expected passage this fall of a blockbuster 2GW program in California.

Learn about the opportunities, and the risks, of virtual PPAs, from two people who know this new market intimately. For more than a decade, Matt Cheney has owned and operated the country's first community shared solar plant, PVUSA outside Davis, CA. Tom Price leads the team working to draft and pass SB 843, the California Community Shared Solar bill, and is working on similar legislation in New York.
