Solar Wind Mirco-Hydro Oregon's Renewable Resources Renewable Energy Benefits

Renewable Energy

An important part of OSEIA's mission is to promote the benefits of renewable energy (RE) and provide the public with information regarding renewable energy technologies.

What is Renewable Energy?

Renewable energy is energy produced from an inexhaustible fuel source (solar and wind) or a continuously replenished 'fuel' source (biomass, small scale (low impact) hydro, ocean waves/currents, and geothermal) in a sustainable and responsible manner. 'Sustainable and responsible' are a key words in this definition. Sustainability refers to the impact on current and future generations. 'Responsible' refers to the impact of the generation 'plant' on our environment. The use of sustainable RE does not impact future generations as apposed to the use of fossil fuels or nuclear energy. Responsibly installed RE does not adversely impact scenic areas or wildlife habitat and it does not produce pollution. RE installed in a responsible manner can provide Oregon with local, safe, clean, and sustainable energy.

Three main RE sources are used to provide electricity and heat for residences and businesses: solar, wind, and micro-hydro. All three are viable energy sources found throughout Oregon. See our solar, wind, and micro-hydro links below for more information.

See our resource and benefits links below for information on Oregon's abundant renewable energy resources and how changing to sustainable sources of renewable energy can contribute to our clean energy future.

If you have questions on any renewable energy information listed here contact one of the renewable energy professionals listed in the Oregon Solar Directory© or see our contractor zone page for a professional near you.
